Learning Objectives
- Comprehensive case assessment and treatment planning for periodontal and peri-implant soft tissue defects
- Grafting indications for teeth and implants, particularly addressing recession and mucogingival defects
- Understand the principles of graft harvesting and management of the recipient and donor sites
- Select and appropriately use the ideal grafting material for each case
- Appreciate use of autogenous grafts and their alternatives
- Recognise the ideal grafting material for each case, and how to manage each
- Practical application of site augmentation, including graft harvesting and managing recipient and donor sites - Use of Ossix Bone, Ossix Plus and Ossix Volumax
- Recognise, manage and prevent complications associated with soft tissue grafting
- Understand basic and advanced suturing techniques
Don’t be left behind! Patients and practitioners are rapidly becoming more appreciative of periodontal harmony. With the additional growth of implants, it is vital that dentists learn to manage soft and hard tissue defects to help plan implant cases and manage periodontal and peri-implant defects.
This course will teach you the fundamentals of soft and hard tissue grafting. Beginning with a brief revision of the periodontium, you will then learn how to identify patients who would benefit from such surgeries, as well as safe and effective ways to manage them. This includes suture technique and flap design, soft and hard tissue graft materials with specifications on the qualities and handling of each, and post-procedural management. Medico-legal advice and managing complications will also be discussed to help you gain a comprehensive view of this field.
Theory will then be put into practice with afternoon sessions each day dedicated to pig-head practicals. Familiarise yourself with the techniques and materials our periodontic experts recommend, and refine your knowledge with the opportunity for personalised guidance.
Dr. Devika Iyer (Masters of Periodontics and Masters of Implantology) will lead this course along with Dr. Cindy Nguyen (Periodontist) and Dr. Matthew Youssef (PGdipImplants). As leaders in their field, you can be assured that you will receive thorough, evidence-based and up-to-date information on advancements in this field. Dr. Devika Iyer
Dr. Devika Iyer has a continued passion for surgery and periodontics. She graduated from the Univeristy of Melbourne in 1992 and commenced her practice Grandstand Dental Care in 1998 with a strong surgical and periodontal focus. Dr. Devika Iyer has been surgically placing and restoring implants for many years after receiving formal training in Implant Dentistry with the Australian Society of Implant Dentistry in 2005, and has expanded her practice since completing her Masters in Oral Implantology from Frankfurt University and a Masters in Periodontics from the International Medical College Germany.

Dr. Barack
Dr. Barack studied Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University, before being accepted to the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry in 1978. After completing his doctoral studies, Dr. Barack opted to pursue further education in the field of Periodontics, completing a residency at University of Illinois at Chicago in 1984. He received his Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology in 1991. While at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Dr. Barack served as an Assistant Clinical Professor for the College of Dentistry from 1983 to 1995.

The best thing about this course is the hands-on components where you get to do suturing on pigs heads and extractions on a real patient. Because the student cohorts are small, it really enables you to get more one-on-one attention with the tutors, pick up tips and tricks, and identify small errors that you might be making and correct them straight away

Before ARIA course I would not know where to start my implant education
Previously I had attended other basic implant courses. Afterwards I was still hesitant about placing implants as I wasn’t confident. I couldn’t picture myself performing the procedure from start to finish.
But after attending the Master Implant Program, I feel like I’m confident enough to complete implant procedures by myself
Highlight of the course was the final module, where we got to actually place an implant on our own patients. It’s a really cool experience
The practical side was really fun and engaging, as we get to practice the surgery aspect of placing implants. It’s like a lab simulation before the live surgery module.
